Wheels for Avery

Family Fun Day

August  7, 11-4

Avery Austin was born 2 months premature, 2 years ago, and suffered a stroke which left him with many life-threatening health problems which require his mother to stay by his side 24/7.  Avery frequently has to attend a Boston hospital for treatments and care, and the family's current vehicle can not hold the entire family (parents plus four children).  A late-model wheel chair van was donated to the family, which still requires much upkeep, new tires etc.  The goal of the Family Fun Day fundraiser is to raise money for the Austin family to help in their time of need.  There are a lot of activities planned that day, such as a moonwalk, dunk tank, delicious food, live music and a Silent Auction featuring Red Sox tickets, spa gift certificates, a free gym membership and much more.  The event is being held at the Fellowship Church on Foundry Street (Route 106/123) in South Easton.

High School Financial Literacy (HiFi) Program

The Office of Consumer Affairs & Business Regulation, in partnership with the Department of Education, launched the HiFi program to provide students with the tools they need to take control of their financial future. Since its inception in 2005, HiFi has grown to include 298 high schools across the Commonwealth.

The HiFi program offers free educator training seminars and materials, which are provided by the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE). The NEFE curriculum is mapped to existing state educational requirements for Math, Science/Technology, English, Health, and Social Science. Teachers can receive professional development points (PDPs) for completing the HiFi training.

The HiFi educator training program is available to teachers, superintendents, administrators, guidance counselors, and business professionals, particularly those in the financial industry. Business professionals can partner with schools and teachers in their communities to teach all or part of the course, or serve as a guest speaker.

To become part of this exciting program, please go to www.mass.gov/hifi to register online or get more information. We appreciate your support of this important program and look forward to including each city and town across the Commonwealth.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions at nicole.sanders@state.ma.us or (617) 973-8735.
